新概念三背书笔记之第三课 

第三课 an unknown goddness(无名女神）
一）
1)《Some time ago》，an (interesting) discovery was made 《by archaeologists on the Aegean island of Kea》． 

discovery was made--make a discovery是发现的意思，这里在42课探索地下洞穴的时候还会出现

Aegean是爱琴海，在希腊那里，那里据说有上千个群岛，爱琴海的海水是海蓝色的，伴随着无边的白云，让人感到那里简直是人间天堂。

Kea岛（基亚岛）－－是爱琴海上的上千岛中的一个岛，本来我总觉得新概念的作者总爱吹牛，所以这个岛名是他瞎吹的，后来经我在外国的网站上仔细寻找，终于找到它了的地图和介绍。
原来真的有这个岛，而且我看介绍说这个基亚岛有四千年的文化了，几千年前真的有神殿，排水管道，还有楼房，真恐怖！（这些东西连新东方的老师上课都没有讲的，如果不是我这个背完全文后
喜欢研究“隐藏剧情”的人，恐怕没有人知道作者原来的知识也挺丰富的，呵呵）

下面我再介绍一下这个Kea岛（基亚岛）的情况，让大家彻底对文章所写的地方名不陌生。现在的基亚岛已经很荒凉了，可以说是一个隐居的好地方，只有当地的原驻民居住，他们是以畜牧卫生的，
还有种植一些蔬菜和水果，他们还懂得养蜂。

2)An AmeriCan team 【explored】 a temple （which 【stands】 in anncient city （on the promontory of Ayia Irini.））

explored－－－在这里是“考察”的意思，（仔细地研究），但它在42课洞穴探险里是“探险”的意思。因为在42课的时候是业余的探险者，而不是考古学家。

stands－－－这个词用得好，是“坐落”的意思。以后我们写长城在哪里要记得用'stand',不要用there be 或in.要把这个stand用烂。

promontory （of Ayia Irini）－－－－promontory是海角。而这个Ayia Irini本身就是一个小小的海角形状，它就是“基亚岛”上面的。（就是说Ayia Irini就是在“基亚岛”的角边临近大海的地方）

3)The city 《at one time》 【must have been prosperous】，for it 【enjoyed a high level of civilization】．

at one time－－一度
must have been prosperous－－must have been done（表对过去的推测）,这短语在第一课出现过了，自己想想。
high level of civilization－－高度文明
enjoyed－－本文的黄金词，“享有”的意思。以后我们说这个古城有很悠久的文明了，记得要用enjoy,不要用have.

4)Houses-《-often three storeys high》--were 【built of】 stone．

built of是看的到的建造。

5)They had large rooms 《with (beautifully decorated )walls》．

They--指上句的houses

6)The city was 【equipped with】 a 【drainage system】，《for (a great many) 【clay pipes】 were found equipped with--装备上
beneath－－－注意它用的是beneath而不是under

7)The temple (which the archaeologists explored )was 【used as】 a place of worship 《from the fifteenth century B.C. until Roman times》. 

used as－－被“用作”的意思，这个短语在第8课会再出现。
Roman times是指古罗马的时期。

8)《In the most sacred room of the temple》, clay fragments (of fifteen statues )were found.

9)Each of these represented a goddess and had, 《at one time》, been painted. 

represented－－代表
Each of these－－是指上句子的fifteen statues

10)The body of one statue was found 《among remains 《dating from the fifteenth century B.C.》》 

The body of one statue--是指15个statues中的其中一个

11)Its （missing） head 【happened to】 be 《among remains （of the fifth century B.C）》.

happened to---碰巧的意思
remains－－遗骸的意思，要注意remains和remain是两个完全不一样的词

12)This head 【must have been found】 《in Classical times 》and ，《carefully》 preserved. 

13)It was very old and precious 《even then》. 

It--指那个头
even then－－即使在这时

14)《When the archaeologists 【reconstructed】 the fragments》, they were 【amazed to find】 {that the goddess 【turned out to be】 a very （modern-looking） woman}.

turned out to be---竟然是，这个短语在后面的课文还会出现，要熟悉 

15)She 【stood three feet high】 and her hands 【rested on her hip】. 

stood three feet high－－－高度的表示法

16)She was wearing a 【full-length skirt】 《which swept the ground》.

17)《Despite her great age》,she was very 【graceful】 indeed,《 but, 【so far】》,the archaeologists 【have been unable】 to 【discover her identity】.

graceful称颂上年纪的妇女美丽要用graceful,不要用pretty
so far--到现在为止

二）背诵的路线
分两段背：
1）讲发现古城
2）讲神殿里的女神的发现经过
3）对拼合后女神的介绍（身高，穿着等）
