  第一篇:Noise pollution solutions(噪音污染解决方案)

  第二篇:Veganism(素食主义)的变化

  第三篇:Free will vs. determinism(自由意志与决定论)

  第四篇:The power of music(音乐的力量)

  第五篇:Opal(蛋白石)

词汇题:prophecy(预言)

  第六篇:Coastal erosion(海岸侵蚀)

  第七篇:Sleep and health(睡眠与健康)

(Academic Discussion Writing)

  第一套:Minimum wage(最低工资)

Is minimum wage good?
学生A:Yes.
学生B:No.

  Dr. Gupta
Today we‘ll discuss the role of sports in building character and discipline. Clearly, participating in sports can teach valuable life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, and discipline. On the other hand, some people believe that character and discipline are primarily developed through other means, such as family upbringing and education. Which do you believe plays a larger role in character development? Why?

  Student A (Kelly)
I believe that the values and lessons taught at home and in school provide a strong foundation for developing character and discipline. I practiced many sports, and while I did enjoy participating in these sports, I do not remember learning any life skills directly from them.

  Student B (Paul)
I think participating in sports is crucial for building character and discipline. I remember the time when I played volleyball in my first year of college, and it significantly helped me develop my social skills.

Should local/indigenous people be encouraged to keep their own culture, or should they be encouraged to learn outside culture?
学生A:They should keep their own, as it is their culture.
学生B:They should learn from the outside, since outside culture is usually better.

  Dr. Gupta
We’ve been discussing the role of literature in shaping societal values. Literature, which includes plays, poetry, and novels, can reflect and influence the beliefs and behaviors of a society. Some argue that literature is a powerful tool that can be used to inspire positive social change. But critics believe that literature‘s impact is limited compared to other forms of media. Do you think literature plays a significant role in shaping societal values? Why or why not?

  Student A (Claire)
Literature plays a significant role in shaping societal values because it gives people a unique opportunity to perceive and think about the feelings of others. Through storytelling, it can inspire empathy and provoke critical thinking about social issues. Books have historically influenced movements and brought awareness to important causes.

  Student B (Andrew)
While literature has some impact, other forms of media like television and social media are more influential in shaping societal values today. These platforms reach a broader audience and can quickly spread ideas and trends. Most people prefer these newer forms of media because they are less challenging than literary works are.

  第五套:Automation / AI and employment(自动化与就业)

  Dr. Gupta
Automation is a much-discussed topic in economics, one that continues to grow in importance with today‘s advances in robotics and artificial intelligence, or AI. Robots and AI provide powerful ways to replace human labor by doing work better and faster than people can. Automation can have very positive effects on businesses and the broader economy, but there are disadvantages as well. What do you think? Is the use of automation a positive development overall? Why or why not?

  Student A (Paul)
I think the use of automation is a positive development. If AI and robots are used instead of human workers, companies will be able to produce many more products than they do now. They can also lower costs, making those products cheaper for people to buy. As a result, everyone will have access to more affordable products.

  Student B (Kelly)
I worry about the psychological effects on people as AI and robots take over work. I doubt humans will really be happy with ever-greater amounts of leisure time. Many of us derive satisfaction from working and doing our jobs well. In fact, never in human history have we been able to spend large parts of our days labor-free.

  第六套:Storytelling vs. fact-based communication(讲故事与事实沟通)
