雅思口语Part1-3话题：Science

　　很多同学（特别是大学读的非理工科）第一次看到Science的话题都是蒙圈的，感觉这个内容离自己的生活太遥远了。但其实，Science是我们每个人在学校都接触过，而且相伴多年的内容。

　　首先，我们先整理下大家在学校都会接触哪些常见的科学相关的学科。初中时我们会开始学习物理（physics）和化学（chemistry），高中时候会开始接触生物（biology）和地理（geography）。有的同学可能还会对天文（Astronomy）感兴趣。

　　例：In high school I had to take physics,chemistry,and biology classes,which were so difficult to me,and sometimes I didn’t even know what the teacher was talking about.

　　那我们要学习科学课程，势必会用到一个方法，那就是实验（experiment），每个学校一般都会有实验室，也都会有实验课，这也是月半鸭以前最喜欢上的课程之一（be a big fan of……喜欢某事物）。在实验课上，我们会操作各式各样的设备（operate various equipment），特别是化学课，当我们把不同的元素（element）混合在一起，可以创造新的元素。

　　例：I was a big fan of science classes,which often involve a lot of experiments,where I can operate various equipment and add a range of ingredients to create some wonders.

　　既然要聊科学学科，我们一定会遇到两类问题，为什么会对科学感兴趣，以及科学带来的好处有什么（对自己或者对孩子等等）。

　　先聊聊为什么对科学感兴趣（have a great interest in……）。一是由于外因，可能因为小时候某部动画片或者书本我感兴趣，二是某个看到的现象让我产生了好奇（curious）。

　　比如怕打雷的同学，都会知道看到闪电后，就要捂住耳朵避免被雷声吓到。但对于小时候的我来说，为什么闪电比雷声更早出现，就是一个非常想了解的事情。

　　例：

　　I pursue science for the intrinsic joy of discovery.

　　I was curious about those natural phenomena,and science classes help me understand why we see the lightning before hearing the thunder and why the dog’s sense of smell is more sensitive than humans.

　　那学习科学又会带来什么好处？（这类的问题经常会在Part3提出）一般来说会有4个最基本的好处。

　　首先是能满足孩子的好奇心（To satisfy their curiosity），每一个孩子都是从理解自己眼前的事务开始学习的，我们看到天空开始好奇为什么是蓝色的，看见花朵开始好奇为什么花那么香，这些都是好奇心，所谓好奇宝宝，就是如此。

　　满足好奇心后，我们/孩子便会开始了解这些现象背后的原理（To help children learn about the principles behind various natural phenomena）。比如小时候折纸飞机时候，大家都会思考怎么样才能飞得更久更远，这背后的原理是什么。我们先看到闪电后再听到雷声是因为光比声音速度更快。

　　最后，科学课程如果教得好，其实能够培养他们对自然学科的兴趣（To foster their interest in scientific subjects）以及为之后的学习打下坚固的基础（To lay a firm foundation for their further study）。学习科学时候所需要的逻辑思维能力和独立思考能力，其实在学习任何一门学科或者工作都是需要用到的。
